Book Overview

There has been a continuous outcry about the government failing to deliver services to its citizens. Rather than simply listing the problems and why the government is currently in the ICU, this book takes on a different approach; it stipulates remedies and solution. The author draws attention to the critical role public administration should play as a machinery for implementating government agendas. The book discusses government failures, especially the root causes of these failures. These root causes include, among other things, politicising public administration poor planning and implemention, as well as monitoring and evalution. It calls on public servants and the general public to embark on a journey of change in order to wean it off life support.

Bafedile Bopape was born in Limpopo on 16 March 1962, at a village called Kgokong, about 5kms N/E of the University of the Limpopo. She worked for 28 years in the public sector in different departments. She has a comprehensive background across various government departments and State Own Entities, as well as integrating the private sector with government projects.

In summary she worked for 8 years in the NGO's environment. She worked for READ Educational Trust as a library coordinator, training teachers in library services in all the primary schools in Mamelodi and Atteridgeville from 1988 to 1996. She played a critical role in resolving educational challenges in the then Northern Transvaal region. She then worked at Mamelodi Career Guidance Center as an Operations manager. She joined the government in 1996 in the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts and Culture. She then joined the Department of Agriculture and worked as Head of the office of the Director General (DG) for more than 10 years with 5 different DGs. She worked with one 1 Minister as the Chief of Staff for a period of two years.
